Textile Design for Yorkshire Bank Staff Workwear
Project Overview
Following the success of the Clydesdale Bank project, I was once again headhunted by global branding agency The Partners to design bespoke printed textiles — this time for Yorkshire Bank’s new staff uniform collection. Working in close collaboration with Goose Design in London, my brief was to create textiles that reflected the bank’s proud Yorkshire roots while harmonising with the tailored tweed garments in the collection.
Design Inspiration
The concept drew upon the rich landscape and artistic heritage of Yorkshire, particularly inspired by the patchwork fields and vibrant palettes seen in the works of celebrated Yorkshire artist David Hockney. I also took cues from Leeds’ architectural forms, capturing a sense of structure and rhythm that connected the prints to the region’s identity. The brand colours of Yorkshire Bank provided the foundation for the palette, ensuring the final designs felt both authentic and on-brand.
The Design Process
Starting with hand-drawn studies of Yorkshire’s rolling fields and geometric patterns inspired by local architecture, I developed a collection of seamlessly repeating prints that balanced contemporary design with regional character. Each motif was carefully refined to work across multiple garments and scales, from the subtle textures used in accessories to the bolder patterns featured on dresses and ties.
The printed textiles were designed to complement the tweed fabrics within the collection — blending modernity and tradition through colour, texture, and pattern.
Production & Collaboration
The fabrics were printed at mills in England, ensuring the highest production quality and continuity with the rest of the garment range. Working closely with Goose Design, I ensured the printed elements integrated harmoniously with the overall aesthetic and tailoring of the collection.
The bespoke prints were used across ties, scarves, dresses, and waistcoat backs and linings, bringing a cohesive visual language to the entire workwear range.
Outcome
The finished uniform collection embodied the essence of Yorkshire heritage, combining craftsmanship, artistry, and a deep sense of place. The bespoke prints brought colour and narrative to the designs — a vibrant reflection of the region’s landscape, architecture, and creative spirit, woven into every detail.
